As you may already know, there are several dual keys on the keyboard that are suitable for both Windows and Mac. That is, there are characters on the keyboard that are easily accessible as secondary keys. By simply pressing two or more keys at once, you can easily insert such characters into your work. 1. Phone Icon Shortcuts

There are several keyboard shortcuts in Windows, some of which only work in Microsoft Word. The telephone icon is one of them. The keyboard shortcut is Alt + 9743.

Each symbol in Word has a unique code that you can use to insert the symbol into your document. This code is also called alt-code.

Here are the steps to enter this character on the keyboard (using the Alt code above):

  • Press the dial pad lock button to activate the dial pad. Use Fn + NumLk to enable Num Lock on laptops without a numeric keypad.
  • Hold down the Alt key and use the numeric keypad to enter 9743.
  • After entering the Alt code (e.g. 9743), release the [Alt] key.

Once you release the Alt key, the phone icon (☏) should appear in your document.

My favorite way to paste characters is copy and paste.

With this method, all you have to do is search Google for the character you want to type, and then copy it from one of the search results. Once you have pasted a symbol into a document, you can copy and paste it again whenever you need it.

3. Using the dialog box for inserting characters

This approach is not as simple as the quick methods. But it’s pretty simple.

And once you’ve inserted a symbol into a document, you can copy and paste it whenever you need it in your work.

The following sections describe the steps for inserting a phone character into a word using the Insert Character dialog box.

  • On the Insert tab, click on the Symbol button and select Other symbols…..

With these few clicks, the Symbol dialog box appears.

  • Find the character you want to insert.

To easily find the phone icon in the Icons window, click on the Font drop-down list and change it to Wingdings, then look at the bottom of the dialog box and type 0028 in the Icon Code: field. The character you want to insert is selected after entering the code.

  • Click on the Insert button.
