If you want to install the VPN directly on your router, you need to check if your Huawei router is compatible with this VPN software.

For your convenience, we have compiled a list of Huawei routers that support VPN services:

  • HUAWEI 2 4G Router
  • HUAWEI CUBE
  • HUAWEI 4G Router B311B
  • HUAWEI 4G 2s Router
  • HUAWEI 5G CPE Max
  • HUAWEI LTE Router B316
  • HUAWEI 4G 3 Prime Router

If your router is not compatible with the VPN you want, consider replacing it with a new one or just using the new router with your existing router.

If this meets your needs and you want all your devices to work optimally, you can also learn how to set up a VPN on your Huawei phone.

By combining them, you keep all the router settings you already have.

How do I easily set up a VPN on my Huawei router?

1. Configuring your router

  1. If you are using a wireless connection, make sure your primary router is connected to the Internet.
  2. Connect an Ethernet cable to the LAN port on the primary router and connect it to the WAN port on the secondary VPN router.
  3. Connect the primary router to your computer via another Ethernet cable by connecting the LAN port on the router to the LAN port on your computer.

2. Find the IP address of the router in Windows

  1. Type Control Panel in the search bar and click on it.
  2. Click View Network Status and Tasks in the Network and Internet pane.
  3. Tap your Wi-Fi name under View active networks.
  4. On the General tab, click the Details tab in the Wi-Fi Status pop-up window. See the IP address of the router next to the IPv4 default gateway.

Run a system check for errors

Press Start Scan to find problems with Windows.

Press Repair Everything to fix problems with proprietary technologies.

Run a PC scan with Restoro Repair Tool to find errors that cause security problems and slowdowns. Once the scan is complete, the repair process replaces the damaged files with new files and Windows components.

Follow these steps to determine your IP address from the command line:

  1. Type CMD in the search box and select the command line.
  2. Type ipconfig.
  3. See the IP address of your router next to the default gateway.

3. Connecting to your router

To connect to your router, enter your router’s IP address in the search bar.

Generally, routers have default passwords that are an easy target for cyber attacks, so it’s best to come up with a strong and secure password.

4. Connecting to a VPN

The following server types are supported:

  • PPTP: A point-to-point tunneling protocol that provides MPPE encryption.
  • L2TP: A Layer 2 (data link layer) tunneling protocol that provides IPSec PSK and IPSec RSA encryption.
  • IPSec Xauth : PSK, RSA and hybrid RSA encryption are available.

PPTP server

  1. Ask the VPN server administrator for the name and address of the VPN server.
  2. Go to Settings – Other connections – VPN – Add VPN network, enter a VPN name, set the server type to PPTP, and enter the server address.
  3. If the VPN server does not have a DNS address, click the Show More Options button and enter the DNS domain, DNS server address, and forwarding route.
  4. Click on Save. Click on the VPN you just installed, enter your VPN username and password, and select Connect.

L2TP/IPSec PSK server:

  1. Obtain the name and address of the VPN server, the L2TP key (optional), the IPSec ID (optional), and the pre-shared IPSec key from your VPN server administrator.
  2. Go to Settings – Other Connections – VPN – Add VPN, enter the name of the VPN server, set the server type to L2TP/IPSec PSK, and then enter the server address, L2TP key, IPsec ID, and pre-shared IPsec key.
  3. If the VPN server does not have a DNS address, click Show Advanced Options and enter the DNS domain, DNS server address, and forwarding route.
  4. Click on Save. Click on the VPN you just installed, enter your VPN username and password, and select Connect.

5. Enable VPN function

  1. Open your router’s configuration page by opening your browser and entering the router’s IP address as the URL (e.g., http192.168.0.0).
  2. Enter your user name and password on the router’s management console to access the router’s control panel.
  3. Go to Settings – Advanced Settings – VPN Service.
  4. Select the Enable VPN Service option and click Apply.
  5. Define the VPN settings on the page.
  6. Download the configuration files and install the VPN on your device.
  7. Read the license agreement and click I accept.
  8. Select the destination folder and click on Install.
  9. Click Finish when the installation is complete.
  10. Test the connection once you have finished setting up the VPN on your Huawei router.

Message: Refer to the manual or manufacturer’s website for detailed instructions on how to set up your router to forward traffic to a VPN server.
