The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 laptop is the company’s flagship ultrabook, and now also a tablet. It’s on the pricey side, starting at $1,699, but it includes some of the fastest desktop-class processors available without burning a hole in your wallet. (The top-of-the line model is $2,749.) Finally, the X1 offers a bevy of ports, including four USB 3.0 ports, an Ethernet port, a mini-DisplayPort, an SD card reader, and a headset jack. The laptop also ships with a USB-C-to-HDMI dongle.

Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Yoga is the latest convertible laptop to hit the market, and it’s a treat for power users. Laptops like the HP Spectre x360 15 and Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 have been excellent alternatives to traditional clamshell laptops, but the X1 Yoga is the first convertible PC with business-class endurance and performance.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 has a lot of similarities with the Lenovo Yoga series of laptops. It can be used in tablet mode, the display can be rotated 360 degrees, and the bottom can be detached and used as a tablet. But the X1 offers a little more than the Yoga line, and even Lenovo’s X1 Yoga, which has the same specs save for the processor. The X1 is a Windows 10 Pro device with a 7th Generation Intel Core i5 processor, and that is reflected in the price.

The ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga is Lenovo’s latest high-end laptop for enthusiasts and hobbyists. The main feature of this 2-in-1 device is its name. It’s partially made of titanium, a material rarely used in laptops (Apple’s PowerBook G4 used it). The X1 Titanium Yoga is the thinnest ThinkPad ever, at 0.45 inches thick. But will the X1 Titanium Yoga have unique features like its predecessor, despite its slim design? We’ll find out. Image source : Tom’s equipment word-image-4177 The ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga is by far Lenovo’s thinnest ThinkPad to date at 11.85 mm (0.45 inches) thick, which is 0.10 inch/13.87 mm thinner than the X1 Nano. The titanium-carbon-magnesium body makes it light, though it doesn’t feel like an aluminum alloy construction and almost feels like plastic when you touch it. There is an opening for airflow at the bottom of the laptop. Fortunately, the X1 Titanium Yoga doesn’t get very hot under load. Heat is dissipated through the rear, but the cooling system doesn’t play a big role due to its thinness. The screen edges aren’t the thinnest you’ve ever seen, and the screen also has a fairly large chin and a thicker top edge to accommodate the webcam. The webcam has a physical shutter button that locks the camera when not in use. The 13.5-inch screen doesn’t just impress with its 2256 x 1540p (3:2) resolution and brightness of about 450 nits. The smudge-proof screen offers excellent protection against fingerprints. It also responds well to the Lenovo Precision Pen, which makes it easy to take notes and annotate. Image source : Tom’s equipment word-image-4178 The X1 Titanium Yoga’s keyboard is similar to that of the X1 Nano, in that the function key is the leftmost key in the bottom row, which is normally the control key. The mouse button is conveniently located for easy access. The 360-degree hinges may seem stiff, but when the X1 Titanium Yoga is in tablet mode, the screen is held firmly against your body, making it comfortable for you. The pen has a magnetized side which normally attaches to the top right of the screen. The Lenovo Precision Pen looks like a real pen. So if they lose in portability, they gain in functionality. So please don’t lose it! There are two USB Type-C ports, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 3.5mm combo jack and a Kensington slot. And one of those USB ports can be used for a charging cable. word-image-4179

Plus, 360-degree microphones pick up your voice and eliminate unwanted noise during calls. So you can easily listen to music, turn on the system, etc. with a voice command.

Leakage and drip protection

The X1 Titanium Yoga is even more durable thanks to a new CNC aluminum chassis. It has undergone some 200 quality tests to prove its performance in all kinds of harsh conditions, spills and falls. Image source : Tom’s equipment word-image-4180 Amazing displays Whether you’re watching videos, chatting on Skype or viewing graphics, you can benefit from the incredible capabilities of the screen. Also enjoy a cinematic 4K Dolby Vision™ panel with High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology, revealing intricate details and richer shadows and textures. You can even choose an FHD screen with PrivacyGuard to protect the now very bright screen.

Advanced Integrated Security System

ThinkShield’s comprehensive security features let you protect your company’s privacy and data. It includes a discrete trust platform module (dTPM) that encrypts data and works in conjunction with Windows 10 security. ThinkShutter is a physical camera that covers the lens so you can be seen whenever you want. The match-on-chip fingerprint reader, the most secure fingerprint technology, uses biometrics for one-touch login.

Protecting your business

With ThinkShield security, Lenovo offers a combination of hardware and software that work together to ensure that everything you see on your screen is for your eyes only. PrivacyGuard is a built-in electronic privacy filter that reduces the viewing angle of the screen. So when other people look at the corner, all they see is a black screen. PrivacyAlert* is built-in software that works effectively with the IR camera to ensure that if someone is looking over your shoulder, a pop-up notification alerts you to a potential threat. Despite the X1 Titanium Yoga’s slim design, its performance doesn’t compare to similarly priced 11th generation Intel converters. Discrete Generation. Additionally, the Intel Core i5-1130G7 processor is similar to the processor in the ThinkPad X12 Detachable Tablet. It has 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. Well, ThinkPads are more expensive because of their professional rating. Fortunately, you can equip the ThinkPad X1 Titanium with a Core i7 processor, but you’ll have to pay extra for it. The X1 Titanium Yoga scores slightly lower than its rivals in Geekbench 5. The score was 1,328 for single-core tasks and 4,747 for multi-core tasks. For example, the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 9310 scored 1,532 on a single core and 4,778 on multiple cores, and even the HP Sceptre x360 14 scored 1,462 on a single core and 4,904 on multiple cores. Image source : Tom’s equipment word-image-4181 As for the Handbrake benchmark, we used a free program to see how long it takes a computer to translate a 4K video file to 1080p. Unfortunately, the X1 Titanium Yoga was inferior to the competition. It finished the job in 20:57, while the Spectre x360 14 completed the task in 18:05 and the XPS 13 2-in-1 in 15:52. It was also subjected to Cinebench R23 for 20 consecutive runs to cause a long review. The average score was 3,397 and the processor ran at an average clock speed of 2.1 GHz. At this point, the average temperature of the CPU has reached 64.75°c (148.55 degrees Fahrenheit). Image source : Tom’s equipment word-image-4182 The X1 Titanium Yoga features a small keyboard with a shortened key drop (1.35 mm). But it’s not a bad keyboard, far from it. The reactions and strokes are precise. However, the subjective typing feel is not as good as other ThinkPad models, and significantly worse than other available series. The overall size of the keyboard is tiny. The standard letter keys are reduced in size from 16 x 16 mm to 15 x 15 mm, and the keys are narrower (15 x 12 mm) on the right side of the keyboard. Over time you will get used to the size. The chassis is wider than that of the X1 Nano, but we think the space on the sides could have been used for a larger keyboard, especially where the speakers are located. There are two intensities for the keyboard backlight, and it is always white. However, the colors differ between the normal keys and the top row F-keys, where the backlight has a slight blue tint. Fortunately, the keyboard is splashproof and waterproof. Image source : Review by Gamer word-image-4183 The touchpad (9 x 6.5 cm) has the following processing problem, with the top right corner sitting slightly lower in the housing. The service is not happy either. Unlike multi-click pads, you can press the entire pad, but the stroke is too short. The tactile feedback is just not familiar, and the click sound seems relatively cheap. Notepad is also very sensitive and usually detects clicks at times when you don’t want to click (the default setting in Windows was medium). The sliding options are not very nice, as small movements are usually not detected properly or the cursor stops and you have to start over. The touchpad is totally disappointing. The TrackPoint can be used with the mouse button turned on. This usually works and is therefore the best method of entry. The highlighted keys fit snugly on the base, and there is no clicking noise. They regularly make clicking sounds. Finally, it has a capacitive touchscreen that recognizes about 10 fingers at a time. Image source : The future word-image-4184 During battery life tests (web browsing at 150 nits), we noted a battery life of 9 hours and 54 minutes, which is excellent for its size. You can easily get through the day with the X1 Titanium, which is a pretty attractive feat considering the 2K screen. The ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga is a high-performance 2-in-1 convertible laptop unlike any other. It’s thin and light and works like a tablet, which is a rarity in this group of devices. It has a quality keyboard and stylus, excellent security features, and a sturdy, stylish case.
